McLane has delivered an Environmental Sample Processor (ESP) to the Monterey Bay Aquarium Research Institute (MBARI). MBARI staff nick-named the ESP “Waldo” after the popular “Where is Waldo” book series. The ESP provides in situ collection and analysis of water samples from the subsurface ocean. The instrument is an electromechanical fluidics system designed to collect discrete water samples, concentrate micororganisms or particles, and sutomate application of molecular probes to identify microorganisms and their gene products.
