Watch time-lapse video of a McLane Moored Profiler (MMP) deployment in action. From launching the buoy to deploying the bottom anchor, an experienced, and well-prepared team make the job a smooth operation. McLane’s Charlie Perry recorded this footage while participating in an Ocean Observatories Initiative (OOI) Pioneer Array turnaround cruise.
The Pioneer Array is one of several OOI research sites that contain MMPs. The array is located off the coast of New England. Approximately 28 Coastal and Global MMPs are used worldwide in OOI arrays. McLane Remote Access Samplers (RAS) are also used in OOI sites. The OOI website has links to OOI data including MMP profiles.
OOI is funded by the National Science Foundation (NSF).
The MMP vertically profiles the water column traveling along a fixed wire carrying an array of sensors. User defined settings control profiling depths, time intervals, and pressure stops. Profiling patterns can span specific seasons or timeframes. See our website for more about the MMP.
