At McLane, we remain committed to helping organizations inspire the next generation of researchers. This October, we enjoyed many opportunities for community involvement by hosting Cape Cod Regional STEM education delegates, Sea Education Association (SEA) students, and INMARTECH attendees at three separate events.
Guests enjoyed presentations on our samplers, profilers and flotation, spoke with engineers about career paths, saw our instrument manufacturing and glass production facilities, and spent time in the Imaging FlowCytobot (IFCB) and Environmental Sample Processor (ESP) lab.
Students from SEA, an internationally recognized leader in undergraduate ocean education, spent an afternoon at McLane while in Woods Hole mobilizing for an upcoming cruise. The McLane Large Volume Water Transfer System (WTS-LV) is among the oceanographic samplers that SEA students learn to deploy.
During STEM week October 22-26, a tour of Cape Cod Blue Economy companies included McLane. Guests included MA Assistant Secretary for Career Education Bob LePage, a representative from the office of Senator Julian Cyr, and more than 24 STEM educators. McLane COO Dr. Yuki Honjo also spoke about engaging students in STEM studies at a STEM week kickoff event for 400 Cape Cod high school students.
Also in October, attendees of INMARTECH, a forum for marine technicians that sold out its fall conference, stopped at McLane on a tour of oceanographic companies in the Woods Hole area. INMARTECH guests included several McLane customers.
