Many thanks to Dr. Chip Brier from Woods Hole Oceanographic Institution who gave a talk at McLane on his work on mineral composition of hydrothermal plume particulates. Dr. Brier also spoke about his instrumentation and the challenges of sampling the particulates and water of from vent orifices using ROVs. His work with biologists on the interplay of minerals and microbes are an important piece of understanding the life cycles of the ocean.
