July 12, 2024 (Falmouth, MA) – McLane Research Laboratories is proud to announce that Ivory Engstrom, Director of Special Projects, has been selected to join the Marine Technology Society (MTS) Marine eDNA Technology Executive Committee. The Marine eDNA Technology Executive Committee, co-chaired by Chris Scholin, President/CEO of MBARI, and Elif Demir-Hilton of Oceankind, was established in early 2024 to foster collaboration among professionals, researchers, and policymakers. The committee is dedicated to promoting the development and deployment of eDNA technology and serves as a platform for disseminating knowledge, sharing best practices, and driving innovation in this rapidly evolving field.
Engstrom’s appointment recognizes his longstanding contributions and leadership in the development of eDNA samplers. Most recently, he spearheaded the technology transfer and commercial manufacturing of two groundbreaking McLane eDNA samplers: the Robotic Cartridge Sampling Instrument (RoCSI) and the Suspended Particulate Rosette Sampler (SuPR). The RoCSI is a 6,000-meter rated instrument that collects and preserves up to 48 in-situ samples. Samples are preserved onto 0.22 µm or 0.45 µm Sterivex™ filters. The SuPR is an autonomous, time-series in-situ sampler capable of collecting 14 individual samples at volumes up to 2000 liters per sample.
With over a decade of experience in eDNA sampler development, McLane Research Laboratories has established itself as a leader in the eDNA instrument industry. Engstrom’s expertise has been instrumental in building the company’s leadership position.
“We are thrilled to see Ivory Engstrom’s hard work and dedication recognized by MTS” said Yuki Honjo, McLane Research Laboratories CEO. “His involvement in the Marine eDNA Technology Executive Committee will have great impact on achieving the committee’s mission.”
