RoCSI eDNA Sampler

Credit: National Oceanography Centre

Brief Description:

The Robotic Cartridge Sampling Instrument (RoCSI) is a field-proven, 6,000 m depth-rated, in situ autonomous oceanographic sampler that collects and preserves water samples into industry standard 0.22 and 0.45 micron Sterivex™ filter cartridges for later eDNA analysis.

A 2023 technology transfer from the National Oceanography Centre (NOC), RoCSI provides high sample count capability in a compact instrument. Water samples are collected and then biologically preserved with a user-specified fixative. Fifty or more samples are possible depending on power supply and sample storage space. Optional in-line bleach flushing cleans the sample intake, reducing cross contamination. RoCSI combines a compact size with high depth rating (depth-rated to 6,000 m). Adaptable to vehicle integration, long-term mooring systems, buoy mounts, bottom landers, and shipboard applications.
